Coping with COVID-19

2020-03-20 – Mid-Week with Christ – Going Viral

The novel coronavirus that came out of China in December is now sweeping across the globe, upending our lives in so many unexpected ways. For Christians, it has meant distancing ourselves from each other and even suspending physical church services. We can bemoan this new reality, fall into anxiety and distress, or even pretend it’s not happening. Or we can remember that Jesus Christ remains Lord of the world, and that we remain in his hands until the life of the world to come.

The missionary task has not changed with the arrival of the virus. We are still called to share the Gospel with as many as we can, especially those who have not heard it. The medium for sharing that message may need to temporarily change, but the message itself has not. Here are some ways that I will be expanding the reach of the Word of God online:

  • Twice-weekly written devotions called “Mid-Week with Christ“. These devotions, which used to go out on Wednesday mornings, will now go out on Tuesday and Friday mornings each week. Listen to the first above.
  • Friday morning devotions will be recorded and made part of the “In The Way” podcast of my sermons.
  • At least temporarily, I will be leading virtual bible studies and services on Sunday morning, which will be recorded and available online. Learn more about these at ascensionlutheran.ca.
